What is a QR code and how does it work?
A QR code (Quick Response code) is a two-dimensional barcode that stores a link, text or Wi-Fi login in a grid of black and white squares, which a phone camera decodes in a fraction of a second. Denso Wave invented it in 1994 to track car parts, and today a free QR code generator lets anyone make one in seconds.

Static vs dynamic QR codes: which one do you need?
Use a static QR code when the destination will not change: the data is written into the image itself, so it never expires and costs nothing. Choose a dynamic QR code only if you must edit the link later or count scans, because it sends people through a redirect service.

QR code error correction levels (and adding a logo)
Error correction lets a QR code scan even when part of it is damaged or covered: Low restores about 7%, Medium 15%, Quartile 25% and High 30%. Choose Medium for most uses, and High if you plan to place a logo over the center.

This generator does not add logos itself. To brand a code, export the SVG at High error correction, place a small logo over the center in a design tool, then scan-test the result. Keep the logo well under 30% of the code area.
Best QR code size, colors and file format for print and web

Best for websites, documents, social posts and email. Export at 512 px or larger so it stays sharp.
SVG (vector)
Best for print, posters and packaging. It scales to any size without blurring and opens in Illustrator, Figma and Canva.

Why won't my QR code scan? How to test and fix it
Most QR codes fail for five reasons: low contrast, inverted colors, no quiet zone, a printed size that is too small, or too much data. Fix the problem flagged in the scan check panel, then test the code on at least two phones.
Scan with two phones
Use one iPhone and one Android if you can. Camera apps differ slightly.
Test the printed copy
Print a sample at final size and scan it from the distance people will use.
Confirm the destination
Open the link or read the text the code produces. A typo in the URL is the most common mistake.
